First day in Kathmandu!

Wow! What a great first day! After spending 24 hours traveling we were welcomed by our friend Bijyesh at Kathmandu airport. In short words Kathmandu is chaos that comes in a box full of colors, expressions and smells.

We went from structure to no structure for example with the non existing traffic rules that somehow still works if you honk really loud and with no specific reason.

Bijeysh took us on a sightseeing around central Kathmandu. It feels as if we have been here for over a week with all the impressions we had today. Two swedes stumbling around in Nepal trying to remember all the names and phrases that sounds exactly the same in our ears. Walking home we stopped to play football with some local kids who had no problem remembering our names.

They told us about todays festival called Teej where they celebrate women. All the woman wore green or red and they were fasting all day long. The girls looked so pretty wearing lots of colors and jewellry.

We also went to Durbar square and watched the festival over a few Momo’s, which is Nepali dumplings, at a restaurant with a view over the square. In the middle of dinner we experienced our first power cut off. The city life went on as if nothing had happened but instead small candle lights popped up everywhere. Welcome to Nepal!
